ANDY SHAUF's THE PARTY out today

The anticipated new album by singer-songwriter Andy Shauf is now available. The album, entitled The Party, is an extraordinary merging of sumptuous pop and poignant lyrical narratives that was recently described by The Independent as a “baroque-pop exercise with echoes of Seventies smarties like Harry Nilsson, Randy Newman and Steely Dan, though rather more empathetic than them.”

To kick off the celebration, Shauf just performed an NPR Tiny Desk Concert which you can watch here:

Andy Shauf is currently on tour in Europe and will be opening for case/lang/veirs in the US on their anticipated tour this summer.

Early Acclaim For The Party:

“There’s a case to be made for Shauf being one of the single most promising voices to emerge from Canada in recent memory. “ – Flood Magazine

“The Party conceals killer lyrics in music of extraordinary beauty and lushness." – Sunday Times

“The Party charms and troubles, playing like the soundtrack to a particularly devastating film noir. Shauf brings the same mentality to pop music as the songwriting greats of the '60s and '70s did, with gorgeous instrumentation, subtle arrangements and an all-round organic feel. Paired with his very human and humanizing lyrics, The Party is relatable and honest, simply marvellous.” - Exclaim

“It’s a lovely, luxuriant thing that you should hear.” – Stereogum

“It basically sounds like Elliott Smith come back to life. In the 70's. It's... incredible. - IndieShuffle

KELP MANAGEMENT SIGNS MICHAEL RAULT

We're very pleased to announce the addition of MICHAEL RAULT to our management roster!

Michael Rault is an Edmonton-born, Montreal-based singer songwriter, with an incredible gift for creating hooky melodies that sound like lost 60s/70s era radio hits. After releasing a early material with Toronto-based Pirates Blend, Rault eventually captured the attention of Burger Records, who released Living Daylight in 2015. Since that time, Rault has toured North America and Europe diligently, building a steady audience in awe of his band's refreshing take on psych/garage rock.

We've been following Michael for awhile and are very excited about what's to come. He is currently working on new material for his next LP...much more news to follow in the coming months!

U.S. GIRLS' "Half Free" released today on 4AD!

The first record that Meg Remy has released with 4AD, Half Free is an enchanting document of life at the point when it feels most on its knife-edge, from "Damn That Valley"'s Wall of Sound dramatics, to the glam stomp of "Sed Knife." The record has received a flood of critical acclaim already, as Meg prepares to hit the road for an extensive album tour next week, beginning with a string of West Coast dates supporting Peaches.

"A creatively restless, audacious voice." - Pitchfork (8.0)
"A big step forward." - Uncut (8/10)
"Fast-rising exponent of luscious lo-fi DIY pop." - The Guardian
"NNNN" - NOW
"This compelling album is not to be missed." - Sunday Times
"Her most complete and, arguably, accessible album yet...Half Free hits the art-pop bullseye." - Exclaim!
"The whole album is great, and each song is very much its own beast...it's the kind of album you should hear start to finish." - Brooklyn Vegan
"A sad pop record that invokes spectres of high, soft and fragile-voiced female singers from past generations, who turn positions of weakness into performances of great strength." - The WIRE

This morning, Meg and bandmate Amanda Crist hit the CBC Radio Q studio for a session and interview, now available here.

U.S. GIRLS announces HALF FREE; releases 2nd single "Woman's Work"

us-girls-half-free-cover.jpg

U.S. Girls will release Half Free on September 25th on 4AD.

The second track to be heard from the album, "Woman's Work," debuts online today, accompanied by another hypnotic video directed and edited by Remy.  Following up on the release of the mutant dub of "Damn That Valley" earlier this year, "Woman's Work" builds further anticipation and intrigue; Remy has delivered a nagging, arpeggio-laced stormer, picking away at the themes of beauty and neurosis, with a video that examines our collective paralysis in the face of aging.

The 405 described "Woman's Work" as "unnerving, lamenting vocals intensively weaving and piledriving through the glistening shards and smithereens of the track," while Paper praised the accompanying video as a "dizzying, sepia-toned exploration of looks-related neurosis...it's a poignant jab at the intrinsic 'female burden' of beauty that darts between close-ups, grainy stills and bleached-out shots."

This fall, U.S. Girls will tour with Peaches, as well as one-offs coming soon with Yuck and Timber Timbre; more dates will be announced soon:
