Monday night in Toronto, Lido Pimienta accepted the 2017 Polaris Music Prize at a gala at the Carlu in Toronto. The award is the highest honour in Canadian music, given to "the best Canadian album of the year based on artistic merit without regard to genre, sales history or label affiliation."

"This album honours my brother who passed away in 2013," said Pimienta as she accepted the award. "This album is about breaking up. This album is about getting back on your feet by yourself, in the big city, with your son and some drawings under your arm."

The award comes with a cheque for $50,000 CDN, which Lido says will go towards "my mom, my son and reinvesting in my music."

The 2017 Polaris Music Prize Short List included the following albums:

We're thrilled to announce the addition of Lido Pimienta to the Kelp Management roster.

Lido Pimienta is a Toronto-based, Colombian born interdisciplinary musician and artist-curator. Singer-songwriter Andy Shauf is sharing the new alien house party video for “Quite Like You”, animated and directed by Chad VanGaalen and premiering today via Clash. "Andy's story was really easy to get inside of and hang out for a while, so I just sat right here in my drawing chair and decided what type of fashion the party mutants would be wearing,” says VanGaalen. ”Tennis ball pedestal helmets will obviously be available soon-ish."

Shauf adds, "I'm a big fan of everything Chad makes, so I was really glad we could work with him on this video. We gave him free reign and he knocked it outta the park. I also didn't realize an alien party could be so emotional."

Shauf is currently on tour across North America in support of his latest album, The Party, out now via Arts & Crafts. Next year he will take his new LP to Europe for a string of tour dates beginning February 8 in London, UK.

Next to receiving an overwhelming critical acclaim from music critics around the world for The Party, Andy Shauf was shortlisted for the 2016 Polaris Music Prize.

ANDY SHAUF's THE PARTY out today

The anticipated new album by singer-songwriter Andy Shauf is now available. The album, entitled The Party, is an extraordinary merging of sumptuous pop and poignant lyrical narratives that was recently described by The Independent as a “baroque-pop exercise with echoes of Seventies smarties like Harry Nilsson, Randy Newman and Steely Dan, though rather more empathetic than them.”

To kick off the celebration, Shauf just performed an NPR Tiny Desk Concert which you can watch here:

Andy Shauf is currently on tour in Europe and will be opening for case/lang/veirs in the US on their anticipated tour this summer.

Early Acclaim For The Party:

“There’s a case to be made for Shauf being one of the single most promising voices to emerge from Canada in recent memory. “ – Flood Magazine

“The Party conceals killer lyrics in music of extraordinary beauty and lushness." – Sunday Times

“The Party charms and troubles, playing like the soundtrack to a particularly devastating film noir. Shauf brings the same mentality to pop music as the songwriting greats of the '60s and '70s did, with gorgeous instrumentation, subtle arrangements and an all-round organic feel. Paired with his very human and humanizing lyrics, The Party is relatable and honest, simply marvellous.” - Exclaim

“It’s a lovely, luxuriant thing that you should hear.” – Stereogum

“It basically sounds like Elliott Smith come back to life. In the 70's. It's... incredible. - IndieShuffle
